About US
FOR ALL CRICKET MEDIA
The Cricket Media Club exists to further the interests of all those who work in the media coverage of cricket, and the interests of cricket itself. CMC started as a social club for cricket writers in 1946. It now comprises all aspects of the cricket media – broadcast, written and photography. Current sponsors are Lord’s Taverners and William Hill, and the club’s activities are much expanded.
In the UK, the club remains a great focal point for the sense of community around the cricket media. Importantly, it does much else besides, including:
– Liaising with the ECB and Counties on media facilities, accreditation procedures for local and visiting media, disability access, coverage of domestic cricket, sustainability initiatives and more.
– Supporting players through the CMC Awards, presented at the club’s flagship event: the Annual Lunch
– Supporting authors through the CMC Derek Hodgson Book Award
– Supporting journalism through the judging of the ECB Domestic Journalism Awards
– Supporting the next generation of journalists through the running of student cricket writing workshops, networking events and Q&As with established members
– Supporting greater inclusion and diversity in the cricket media by actively seeking student members from non-traditional backgrounds, and offering funding through the Bethan James Bursary
– Promoting the activities of our sponsors
– Arranging the club’s flagship event, the Annual Lunch
– Arranging summer socials with the visiting touring media in the men’s and women’s international game
– Arranging social mixed cricket fixtures against MCC, ECB or the touring media.
– Maintaining archives, celebrating the history of the cricket media and its members
The Cricket Media Club is administered by a main committee, with sub-Committees assigned to specific areas. Everything is voluntary.
We welcome new members from all parts of the cricket media, both from within the British Isles and abroad. Sponsorship opportunities are also available.
