Cricket Writers’ Club members Mark Baldwin, Paul Hiscock, William Powell, David Hopps, Dick Davies and Marcus Hook made a presentation to Nigel Fuller for 50 years of reporting on Essex Cricket 1969-2019 during the luncheon interval at Chelmsford on September 17.

Essex CCC chairman John Faragher and skipper Ryan ten Doeschate presented Nigel with signed Essex shirt on behalf of the club. Former Essex cricketers Keith Fletcher and Robin Hobbs also attended the presentation.

Nigel penned this thank you: “I am still coming down to earth following the generous gift from the Cricket Writers' Club presented to me during Essex’s recent match against Surrey at Chelmsford in recognition of my 50 years reporting on the county. For once in my life I was lost for words when William surprised me with the gift and also presented my wife with a bouquet of roses, presumably because she deserved it for putting up with me for more years than I care to remember.

“One of the great privileges on reporting on Essex for so long has been working with colleagues past and present who have provided me with so much support, fun and friendship. According to Mark Baldwin and David Hopps I have a reputation for abusing people, but I hope they will testify that it is good-natured banter. Mind you, they give me as much in return and I trust that will always be the case.

“Thank you once again for making my day at Chelmsford so memorable and I hope you will pass on my heart felt thanks to everyone.”

Regards, Nigel Fuller
